Five Mustangs Place on Heart Tournament Team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After securing the first Heart of America tournament crown in program history on Tuesday, five Mustang baseball players featured on the Heart Tournament team, the conference office announced.

The battery of Trent Hoogerwerf and Ashton Schwab headlined the tournament team, as Schwab earned a save in his tournament appearances. In his outing against Grand View, Schwab would throw 6.1 innings while allowing four runs and striking out six. Schwab entered the game against Central Methodist in relief, throwing just over two innings while not allowing a run and striking out two.

Hoogerwerf would compile an 8-20 statline, good for a .400 batting average, over the course of the five Mustang contests. Along with his eight hits, he would record 10 RBI's while drawing four walks. The next Mustang on the team was Riley Rundquist, who recorded seven hits over the course of five games. Along with Rundquist's seven hits, he belted 11 RBI's to pace the Mustang offense.

The next infielder to earn the honor was Tyler Dahm. Dahm recorded at least one hit in each of the Mustangs five tournament games. Dahm would record a double to go along with four RBI's. The final Mustang to earn the all-tournament team honor was Jeremy Figueroa, who went 7-20, good for a .350 batting average. Figueroa would tally four RBI's along with a triple to cap off the Mustangs tournament run as champions.

The Mustangs will find out their opponent and where they are headed to play at the NAIA National Tournament on Thursday, May 9th, with the selection show taking place at 4 p.m.
