Mustangs split cheer, dance duals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy's cheer and dance teams hosted the fifth annual Mustang Classic on Saturday, with both Mustang squads splitting duals with Graceland and Grand View at Hennessey Recreation Center.

Dance competitions started off the event. Mount Mercy defeated Graceland in the opener, 76.2-64.0, then fell to Grand View, 78.8-76.8, in their final dual. Grand View also defeated Graceland, 77.25-65.35, in the evening's third matchup.

In the cheer portion of the Mustang Classic, Mount Mercy once again opened the session with a 59.85-57.65 defeat of Graceland. After Graceland defeated Grand View, 65.35-56.6, Grand View edged the Mustangs, 63.4-60.4.

Next for the cheer and dance squads will be virtual duals with Peru State on Sunday, Feb. 14. The cheer portion of the schedule begins at 7:00 p.m., while the dance dual will get underway at approximately 8:00 p.m. Mount Mercy's performances can be viewed at heartconferencenetwork.com.
