Houston keys road win
FOREST CITY, Iowa -- Alex Houston poured in a game-high 28 points as the 17th-ranked Mount Mercy men's basketball team avenged its only loss in the last 13 games, defeating Waldorf, 81-74, on Wednesday night at Hanson Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs have won four straight since a 99-92 home loss to the Warriors on Jan. 28. The difference was rebounding. In the loss at Hennessey Recreation Center, Waldorf outrebounded Mount Mercy, 44-24. On Wednesday, it was the Mustangs with a 44-39 advantage on the glass.
The strong performance in the paint helped Mount Mercy overcome 40 percent shooting from the field, including a 3-for-17 night from 3-point range. Houston was 11-of-14 from the floor while adding five rebounds and four steals. Tre Wagner also hit double figures with 14 points. He also finished with five boards and a game-high six assists.
The Mustangs (22-6) finish the regular season at Viterbo (Wis.) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium in La Crosse, Wis.
