Mustangs grind out road win

MARSHALL, Mo. -- The Mount Mercy men's basketball team picked up a huge road win on Saturday, edging Missouri Valley, 67-64, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game at Burns Athletic Center.

Mount Mercy, which had lost two straight on the road, kept pace with Evangel in the Heart of America standings. The Mustangs (15-8, 8-5 Heart) and Valor (15-7, 8-5 Heart) are tied for second place behind league-leading and NAIA top-ranked William Penn (21-1, 12-1 Heart).

RoyShawn Webb led the way on Saturday, posting a double-double that included 16 points and 11 rebounds. Bailey Basala narrowly missed his own, totaling 15 points and nine boards. He also had three assists. Chris Giles added 11 points and six rebounds.

Dusaan Allen led a balanced Viking attack with 13 points to go along with six rebounds. TJ Wallace and Tamarcus Butler each scored 11 points, Dwaine Simmons 10. Wallace and Butler had six and seven boards, respectively.

Mount Mercy has a rematch with William Penn on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Penn Gymnasium in Oskaloosa. The Statesmen handed the Mustangs their only home loss this season, a 72-65 decision on Jan. 5 at Hennessey Recreation Center.
