Baker hands Mount Mercy tough road loss

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. -- Baker erupted for a 56-point second half on Saturday and defeated the Mount Mercy men's basketball team, 101-69, in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game at Collins Center.

The Mustangs only trailed by 10 at the half but the Wildcats shot 67 percent from the field after the break to roll to their fifth-straight win. They moved to 10-3 overall and 8-1 in the Heart while Mount Mercy, which has lost three in a row, dips to 3-9 and 2-6 in conference play.

Rusmir Hamzic topped the Mustangs with 19 points and five rebounds. Anthony Horton, Jr. added 15 points and seven assists. Aidan Yamilkoski chipped in 10 points and five boards off the bench.

Noah Rigatuso led all scorers with 25 points. Ahmed Mahgoub poured in 21 points and grabbed six rebounds in a reserve role. Korey Jones and Quentin Harvey had 10 points apiece.

Mount Mercy is off until 2024, returning from the holiday break to host a Heart of America matchup with Culver-Stockton on Jan. 3 at 7:30 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center.
