COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's basketball team fell on the road to a receiving votes Columbia squad after a competitive first half, ultimately falling 87-67.
Despite a red-hot shooting percentage in the first half by the Cougars of Columbia, the Cougars could not gather a lead by more than six heading into the intermission. For the Mustangs in the first half, the bright spots came from Jaxson Fried and Jordan Willis, who would each tally double-figure numbers in the opening 20 minutes, led by Fried with 16 heading into the break on 60% shooting.
In the second half, the Cougars were able to pull away, extending their one point halftime lead, stretching the lead into as much as 20. Four Cougars would end the game in double-figures, led by Collin Parker with 20. Seth Larson (16), Kai Steinman (12), and Justin Boyer (12) would join the list of Cougars with at least ten points.
For the Mustangs, Jaxson Fried led the squad once again, tallying a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Willis (14) and Sterling Blakely (12) joined Fried in double digits. Fried would shoot 50% from three while Willis would end his day with a 5-7 shooting clip.
The Mustangs will take the day off tomorrow before traveling to Davenport on Monday to take on St. Ambrose.
