Mustangs Fall to St. Ambrose on the Road

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's basketball team fell on the road thanks to a big second half from St. Ambrose, falling 78-63.

The Mustangs were able to keep the game within a possession at the half, but the Fighting Bees of SAU shot 58.6% from the field (17-29) in the second half to score 45 points over the final 20 minutes, despite six made Mustang threes in the second half.

Jaxson Fried once again led the Mustangs on the offensive end, as he would lead the team in points for the third straight game, recording 17 on Monday night. Fried would have nine at the break, before shooting 3-7 and scoring eight more in the second half. Joining Fried in double figures was Cameron Williams and Aidan Yamilkoski, each with 10. Elijah Ward would be a key contributor off the bench, scoring eight points on 3-8 shooting.

The Bees would have three players record more than 15 points, led by Guillermo Narbona, who had a game high 22 on 10-14 shooting. Atem Agot would finish not far behind him with 17 points as Agot would shoot 80% from the free throw line. The final Bee in double figures was Grant Mason, who ended with 15 points as he would shoot 5-7 from the field.

The Bees would shoot 48% as a team compared to 34% from MMU, while each team would record 15 assists. The Mustangs would have the advantage in points off turnovers, scoring 17 points off of 16 miscues from SAU.

The Mustangs will return to the court for the Heart of America Conference opener, traveling to Oskaloosa to take on William Penn on Wednesday night.
