CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - In a closely contested conference game Tuesday night at the Hennessey Rec Center, the Mustangs were edged out by the Grand View Vikings, with a final score of 58-59. Despite leading at halftime with a score of 32-31, the Mustangs couldn't clinch the victory against the in-state conference foe.
Aidan Yamilkoski was a bright spot for the Mustangs, scoring 18 points, while teammates Jaxson Fried and Jordan Willis contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively. Additionally, Willis secured eight rebounds, reinforcing his presence in the paint while being a force on the defensive side of the ball, contesting numerous shots. Meanwhile, Caden Schroeder, and Miles Dear contributed significantly on both ends of the court, showing their presence on defense.
For the Vikings, they were led by double-digit by Jackson Green and Jaxson Young, with 13 and 12 points respectively. Young would also lead the team in assists with three. The game's critical moment came in the last minute when Jackson Green of the Vikings stole the ball and scored on a layup,while he added a free throw to secure the win for Grand View.
With this result, the Mustangs now hold a record of 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play and will head to Lamoni to take on Graceland on December 4.
