Yamilkoski Helps Mustangs Soar Past Ravens

ATCHISON, Kan.—The Mount Mercy Mustangs ended a 10-game skid with a hard-fought 75-69 victory against the Benedictine Ravens in Heart of America Conference action on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs secured the win behind efficient free-throw shooting and a strong rebounding effort in a game that featured multiple lead changes.

Mount Mercy (2-10, 1-7 Heart) used a balanced attack, with Aidan Yamilkoski leading all scorers with 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting, including six three-pointers. Jaxson Fried added a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Elijah Ward chipped in 11 points. The Mustangs outrebounded the Ravens 42-36 and shot 80% from the free-throw line to seal the win.

The Mustangs led 41-39 at halftime, with Yamilkoski sinking a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give Mount Mercy the edge heading into the break. Benedictine (5-7, 4-4 Heart) responded early in the second half behind Brycen LaRue's team-high 19 points, but the Mustangs countered with timely shooting and defensive stops.

Mount Mercy's defense proved pivotal, forcing nine turnovers while committing just seven of their own. Key free throws by Fried and Ward in the closing seconds ensured the victory, marking Mount Mercy's first conference win of the season.

The Mustangs return to action on Saturday, Dec. 16, when they host Baker University at the Hennessey Recreation Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
