Mustangs Fall in High Scoring Clash

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's basketball team fell in a high scoring clash with Culver-Stockton, falling to the Wildcats 105-93.

The Mustangs (3-22, 2-19 Heart) were led on offense by Aidan Yamilkoski, dropping 23 points on 9-16 shooting. Jaxson Fried would not finish too far behind, adding in another 22 points on 8-17 shooting. Two other Mustangs would finish in double figures, as Rusmir Hamzic would add 17 points and Ahmad Ingram would tack on 12.

The Wildcats (5-20, 5-16 Heart) were led on offense by the stellar performance from Connor Davis, leading all scorers with 26 points, shooting 5-9 from three, and going a perfect 9-9 from the charity stripe. Joining Davis in double figures were Ryan Stevenson (18), Martez Rhodes (16), and Tai Walters-Whitaker (15).

The high scoring output from both teams would feature nine ties and eight different lead changes, with the Mustangs holding a five point lead at one point while the Wildcats largest lead of the game would be 19. Both teams would shoot the ball well in the matchup, as both teams would finish with a field goal percentage over 50%, led by the Wildcats with 53.1%. The difference in the game would come from the three point line, with Culver-Stockton shooting 58.3% whereas the Mustangs would only shoot 28.6%.

The Mustangs will return to the court, honoring their nine seniors in the program on Saturday, taking on Peru State, with tipoff slated for 2 p.m.
