Women's bowling earns Tier 1 win, men finish 13th at Midwest Collegiate
WAUWATOSA, Wis. -- The Mount Mercy bowling teams opened the season over the weekend as the women's squad picked up a Tier 1 win and the Mustang men finished 13th at the Midwest Collegiate Championships. Megan Kolberg nabbed an all-tournament nod for the Mustangs as well.
The Mustang men made a huge leap on day two, jumping up 11 spots to finish 13th overall with 9,301 pins. That was 5,912 team pins and 3,389 in Baker games. Brandon Bohn made his collegiate debut, placing 20th with a total pinfall of 1,339 for a 223.2 average. The rest of the Mustang roster included Kai Yamada (1,223 pins/203.8 avg), Brett Lloyd (1,157/192.8), Harley Shene (785/196.3), Tom Burns (330/165), Joshua Zilk (555/185), Clayton Reid (348/174), and Andrei Tacorda (175/175).
The Mount Mercy women finished third in qualifying with a total pinfall of 8,757. That included 5,815 team pins and 2,942 in Baker games. Only St. Francis (9,072) and Coe (8,912) placed higher during qualifying. In match play, the third-seeded Mustangs rolled to the team title with victories over Notre Dame College (187-207, 195-182, 214-170), Midland (218-185, 208-155), and St. Ambrose.
Kolberg totaled 1,302 pins with a 217 average, which put her third individually for her first all-tournament team nod. Also competing for the Mustangs were Jenna Williams (1,186 pins/197.7 avg), Elena Carr (547/182.3), Jaelle Hamman (913/182.6), Mackenzie Ullian (805/201.3), Jasmine McKeel (166/166), Brynna Madison (563/187.7), and Katrina McCarthy (333/166.5).
Up next for the Mustangs will be the Mid-States Championships on Oct. 15-16 in Wichita, Kan.
