Mustangs host successful Five Seasons Classic

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy bowling programs hosted another successful event over the weekend as the Mustang women won the team title and the men finished third at the Five Seasons Classic at May City Bowl and Cedar Rapids Bowling Center. Four Mustangs also made all-tournament teams, including top individuals Megan Kolberg and Brandon Bohn

In men's action, Mount Mercy was runner-up during qualifying with a total pinfall of 9,026. St. Ambrose led the way with 9,248 pins. Wartburg (8,634), Iowa Central (8,278), and Upper Iowa (8,266) rounded out the top five.  The traditional match play format was replaced by team-versus-team matchups throughout the tournament. The Mustangs claimed third place in the head-to-head competitions with a record of 7-3. St. Ambrose and Wartburg finished 1-2 with overall marks of 8-2. 

Bohn was the top performer on the men's side, finishing at the top with 1,234 pins and an average of 246.8, nine more pins than runner-up Tim Wengenack (1,225) of Wartburg. Joining Bohn on the all-tournament team from Mount Mercy was Kyle Rosenberg, who finished with 1,066 pins and a 213.2 average.

After five team games and 20 Baker games, the Mount Mercy women topped all qualifiers with 8,817 pins. St. Ambrose was next at 8,284, followed by Peru State (8,193), Grand View (8,149), and Culver-Stockton (8,107). The Mustangs were crowned champions after finishing with an overall record of 8-2.

Kolberg and Jaelle Hamman finished first and second, respectively, to earn all-tournament honors. Kolberg's total pinfall of 1,171 and 234.2 average were best among the women's competitors. Hamman totaled 1,069 pins for a 213.8 average over five games.

Up next for the Mustangs will be the Leatherneck Classic on Nov. 12-13 in the Quad Cities.
