Seven bowlers make ATT; Mustangs claim women's, men's titles
WATERLOO, Iowa -- Mount Mercy dominated the lanes this weekend, winning men's and women's team titles and placing seven bowlers on all-tournament teams at the Cedar Valley Invitational.
The Mount Mercy women dominated the field of nine teams, running away with the team title by more than 1,000 pins. They finished with a total pinfall of 8,495 while runner-up Wartburg had 7,435 pins. Waldorf was third with 7,387 pins, followed by Coe (7,326) and Morningside (7,324).
Megan Kolberg led a group of four Mustangs that earned all-tournament honors. She was first with a total pinfall of 1,171 over five games for a 234.2 average. Teammate Katrina McCarthy finished runner-up with 1,051 pins and a 210.2 average. Mount Mercy's Emma Punter was fourth (1,021/204.2) and Elena Carr fifth (1,010/202).
The Mustang men dominated as well, winning with a 400-pin margin after five team games and 16 Baker games. They're pinfall was 8,464 while runner-up Waldorf came in at 8,086 pins. Iowa Western placed third (7,983), Upper Iowa fourth (7,605), and Coe fifth (7,593).
Mustang bowlers were 1-2 on the men's side as well. Brandon Bohn stayed hot on the lanes. His 1,132 total pinfall and 226.4 average led all men's competitors. Ian Dohan was runner-up with 1,118 pins and a 223.6 average. Teammate Clayton Reid finished fifth (1,091/218.2).
Mount Mercy has one more regular season event coming up. They will compete at the Hoosier Classic on Feb. 18-19 in Indianapolis before the road to nationals begins in early March.
