Schrimper, South lead Mustangs to second win

RIVERSIDE, Iowa -- Senior Ryan Schrimper finished at 2-under-par and junior Jack South posted a 1-under-par total at the Blue Top Ridge Invitational, leading the 19th-ranked Mount Mercy men's golf team to its second win of the 2013-14 season at Blue Top Ridge Golf Course.

Schrimper opened with an even-par 72 on Saturday, then carded a 2-under 70 on Sunday to tie for first place after 36 holes. He lost a playoff for medalist honors. South had rounds of 73 and 70 to finish one stroke back of the leaders. Junior Jacob Selander was 3-over-par (72-75), junior Matt Schlueter 5-over (76-73) and sophomore Jamie Booth 10-over (77-77) for the tournament.

The Mount Mercy "Gold" squad ended up in a tie for seventh. They were led by sophomore Ben Franklin (78-77=155), who was 11-over-par for the tournament. Also competing were senior Lucas Mulholland (79-80=159), senior Dalton Stevens (84-75=159), senior Jonny Jones (81-82=163) and sophomore Warren Bynoe (86-85=171).

The Mustangs are at the Wartburg Invitational this weekend. Action gets underway at 11:00 a.m. on Friday and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday at Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly.
