Men's Golf third at Conference tune-up
MORAVIA, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's golf team battled the conditions at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Preview held at the Preserve on Rathbun Lake Golf Course earlier today and yesterday, finishing third in their final tournament of the fall season.
Johan Wigertz (72-74) and Junn Yong (69-77) tied for fifth at 146, just six strokes off the leader, Cholnan Nunya (72-68=140) who took home the individual title from Park (Mo.). Grant Case (76-76=152) and Kaleb Hagge (77-77=154) were consistent in both rounds, finishing tied for 27th and 32nd, respectively. Evdokios Demetrios (81-73=154) also tied for 32nd, using five birdies in round two to be the only Mustang to improve his score from day one to day two. Also competiting for Mount Mercy as individuals was Miguel Crespin (75-80=155) who tied for 34th and Dylan Tan (79-79=158) who tied for 47th.
After a rainy round one that was postponed until day two, Mount Mercy sat atop the leaderboard with a team score of 294. The Mustangs shot 300 in round two and were not able to hold onto the lead. Only 11 strokes separated the top five teams. Park (299-290=589) won, Grand View (298-294=592) was second, Mount Mercy (294-300=594) was third, Missouri Valley (304-292=596) was fourth, and 24th-ranked Central Methodist (Mo.) (302-298-600) was fifth. This was Mount Mercy's fifth top-five finish this fall.
