Mustangs host second annual Verhille Invitational
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's golf team hosted 13 teams at Finkbine Golf Course on Tuesday and Wednesday for their second annual Verhille Invitational. The Mustangs came in third in their final tune up before the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships next week.
The Mustangs shot 304 in round one followed by 305 in round two, for a 36-hole total of 609. Kirkwood Community College was first and were the only team to shoot under 290 in any round (288-296=584). Baker (Kan.) just edged out Mount Mercy with 608 (311-297) for second. DMACC was fourth (296-318=614) and Culver-Stockton (Mo.) was fifth (309-311=620).
Junn Yong fired an even 72 in round one thanks to four birdies and 11 pars to lead Mount Mercy. All five Mustangs birdied hole 15. Yong tied for eighth after a 77 in round two, for a total of 149. Grant Case (77-73=150) tied for 10th, Corbin Borelli (75-78=153) tied for 15th, Dylan Tan (80-77=157) tied for 27th, and Miguel Crespin (81-82=163) tied for 50th. Tan highlighted Mount Mercy's round two with an eagle on on hole 15.
Mount Mercy's "B" team came in eighth (316-317=633) and the "C" team was 10th (323-322=645). Also competing for Mount Mercy as an individual was Diego Sequeda (96-96=192) who was 79th.

The Mustangs look ahead to the Heart Championships on Monday and Tuesday, April 24-25 held at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake Golf Course in Moravia. Shotgun start is at 8:00 am on Monday, followed by tee times on Tuesday.
