Mustangs fourth at Heart Championships, Yong named All-Conference
MORAVIA, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's golf team's season came to end at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championships held at The Preserve on Rathbun Lake Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday. The Mustangs improved in each round, going from 300 in round one, to 289 in round two, closing out the first day sitting in fifth place. Another jump of 12 strokes in round three, allowed the Mustangs to move up to fourth place by the end of the tournament.
Grant Case and Junn Yong led Mount Mercy from the start, both carding 74 (+2) through 18 holes. Kaleb Hagge's hole in one highlighted round two for the Mustangs. He shot four-under-par playing a large part in the teams improvement each round. Dylan Tan also used three birdies to shoot 73, three strokes better than his first round. Four of the five Mustangs put up their best scores of the tournament in the third and final round. Case shot an impressive five-under-par with six birdies and 11 pars. Yong was right behind with six birdies and 10 pars.
In the last tournament of his collegiate career, Case (74-73-67=214) finished tied for eighth, his third straight top-10 finish of the season. Yong (74-76-68=218) tied for 18th, Hagge (79-68-72=219) and Tan (76-73-70=219) tied for 20th, and Corbin Borelli (76-75-74=225) tied for 36th.
Park (Mo.) (284-287-278=849) edged out Missouri Valley (290-285-275=850) for first place. Central Methodist (Mo.) (288-284-285=857) was third and MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) (289-288-293=870) was fifth.
Yong was one of 15 named to the Men's Golf All-Conference Team. He averaged a score of 74.11, including a first place finish at the Mid South Classic and a runner-up at the Klocke Family Classic. Yong has six top-10 finishes this year and placed in the top-20 in 10 out of the 12 tournaments he played in.
