Mustangs deliver runner-up performance in season debut
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's golf team opened up their fall campaign with their own MMU Fall Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday at Hunter's Ridge Golf Course in Marion. The Mustangs combined to shoot 295 in both rounds for a team score of 590, and a runner-up finish to Kirkwood Community College.
A trio of Mount Mercy's freshman class had an exceptional first round. Theo Baker was two-under, Lincoln Beckett was one-under, and Ziwen Zhong finished at par. With the newcomers as well as the returners, the Mustangs placed four on the top-10 list, tying with Kirkwood who also finished with four. After a rough first round, Junn Yong fired a four-under-par second round, the lowest score of the field of 82 on either day.
Kirkwood won the event with a team score of 575 (285-290), Mount Mercy A was second (590=295-295), Mount Mercy C was third (608=302-306), St. Amborse A was fourth (611=313-298), and Simpson rounded out the top five (613=304-309).

The Mustangs travel to Wichita, Kan. on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 18-19 to compete in the Crestview Fall Invitational at the Crestview North Course hosted by Friends University. Tee times have not yet been announced.
