Mount Mercy sixth at Bates Shaw Memorial Invite
WICHITA, Kan. - The Mount Mercy men's golf team traveled to their first road meet to play in the Bates Shaw Memorial Crestview Invitational hosted by Friends University this past Monday and Tuesday. The Mustangs carded rounds of 300, 311, and 317 to come away with a sixth place finish at the Crestview North Course.
Twenty-fourth ranked, Park (Mo.) won the tournament being the only team with all three rounds under 300- finishing at 883 (289-295-299). USAO (Okla.) was second (898=296-304-298), Hastings (Neb.) was third (911=304-301-306), Midland (Neb.) was fourth (915=301-301-313), and 21st-ranked, Friends (Kan.) was fifth (923=304-315-304).
Lincoln Beckett was even after the first 18 holes on Monday and Theo Baker fired a two-over-par to lead the Mustangs to their lowest team total of the three rounds. Junn Yong played his way to tie for 16th (228=78-74-76), Baker finished tied for 24th (234=74-76-84), Ziwen Zhong tied for 31st (235=77-80-78), Beckett tied for 34th (236=72-81-83), and Carter Vander Zee was 51st (244=77-87-80). The bright spot in Mount Mercy's lineup was their individual, Joseph Grau, who played a steady three rounds. Grau tied for 20th (230=74-78-78) in his freshman debut.
Mount Mercy looks to improve their game next week at the Mid-West Intercollegiate tournament hosted by St. Ambrose on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26 in Silvis, Ill at TPC Deere Run Golf Course. It will be a shotgun start at 8:00 am.
