Mustangs fifth at Egypt Valley Championship
ADA, Mich. - Continuing on with their road trips, the Mount Mercy men's golf team traveled to Michigan to compete in the Egypt Valley Championship hosted by 12th-ranked Taylor University. The Mustangs finished fifth in a competitive field at the Egypt Valley Country Club this past Tuesday.
Both Dominic McCain and Junn Yong improved their scores with each round, keeping Mount Mercy in the middle of the field of 12 teams. Junn Yong tied for fourth for his second consecutive top five finish. He fired rounds of 75, 72, and 72 to lead the Mustangs. McCain tied for 21st (231=78-77-76). Just one stroke separated Ziwen Zhong and Theo Baker. Zhong (233=82-75-76) was 26th, and Baker (234=77-76-81) tied for 27th. Lincoln Beckett tied for 45th (243=80-80-83). Dylan Tan was an individual for Mount Mercy with scores of 81, 78, and 79 to tie for 34th place. Landon Wanless of Cornerstsone was the medalist after firing an impressive six-under-par 66 in the final round (216=79-71-66).
Host, Taylor (889=298-301-290) won by two strokes over Lawrence Tech (Mich.) (891=296-293-302) who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll. Cornerstone (Mich.) was third (901=308-300-293), UNOH was fourth (911=318-301-292), and Mount Mercy was fifth (922=313-301-308).
Mount Mercy finishes their fall season by hosting the Old Kinderhooks Battle in the Ozarks two weeks from now, Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 30-31. The tournament will be played at Old Kinderhook Resort and Golf Course in Camdenton, Mo. Tee times have not yet been released.
