Mustangs Open Verhille Invite
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's golf team opened The Verhille Invitational on Tuesday, holding a five shot lead heading into Wednesday's final round.
Dominic McCain had an impressive showing, ending his day at one over par, good for a tie for fifth. McCain carded a pair of birdies on the front nine to go along with another birdie on the back nine. McCain would also record an eagle on the par five 15th, which was the first of two Mustangs to eagle the hole.
Ziwen Zhong followed McCain by just one shot, ending his round at two over, good for a tie for eighth. Zhong carded a birdie on the seventh hole, and would birdie the 11th and 15th holes to end at two over.
Frederick Walker and Theo Baker each ended in a tie for 13th at three over par. Walker would card two birdies on his round while Baker would record one, but Baker, like fellow teammate McCain, carded an eagle on the 15th.
The Mustangs will round out The Verhille Invitational tomorrow at Finkbine GC in Iowa City.
