Mustangs Place Fifth on Day One of Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational
PARKVILLE, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's golf team placed fifth to open the Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational, hosted by Park University.
Ziwen Zhong led the Mustangs, cracking the top-10 to place ninth through the first round. Zhong started off his round hot, with a pair of birdies through his first four holes. Following a double bogey on the fifth, Zhong would par his next four to end his front nine at even par. After recording a bogey and a birdie through his first five on the back nine, a pair of bogeys would result in Zhong ending his day at two-over.
The next finishers in were Junn Yong and Gannon Hall, each in a tie for 17th shooting four over. Hall would birdie the second, while Yong would card a birdie on the eighth, as Hall would end his front nine at even par, while Yong was at three over. Yong would fire off six straight pars on his back nine before recording a bogey to end at four over, while Hall carded a birdie on the 14th and shot a four over on the back nine.
The final countable scorecard came from Frederick Walker, ending his round at nine over, good for 37th. Walker carded himself six pars on the front nine while carding a pair of birdies on the back to end his round. Playing as an individual, Dylan Tan had himself a round, ending in a tie for second place at one under. Following a three over front nine, Tan had a remarkable back nine, firing off a bogey free, four birdie performance on his final nine holes to shoot a four under back nine, and one under on his round.
The Mustangs will return to the course tomorrow to round out the Virginia McCoy Fall Invitational.
