Mustangs Edged Out Late to Take Second at Verhille Invitational
CAMDENTON, Mo. - Despite a strong second round, the Mustangs were narrowly edged out at the Verhille Invitational, taking home second place.
The only team to finish above the Mustangs was William Woods, finishing at 27-over as a team. The Mustangs would finish just two shots behind in second place at 29-over. Kirkwood, Northwestern, and Hastings rounded out the top five teams at the event.
Theo Baker finished first overall, winning the event with a score of one-under. Baker would shoot a two-under in the second round, capped off with an eagle on the par five ninth hole, en route to a front nine score of two-under. Baker would card a birdie and a bogey to go along with seven pars on the back nine to lead the tournament field.
The other Mustang in the top-15 was Junn Yong at nine-over. Yong would significantly improve his round two score from his first round, shooting a one-over 72 over the final 18 holes. Despite a second place performance in the opening 18 holes, Freddie Walker ended in 19th overall, shooting an 11-over. Walker would shoot a 10-over 81 in his final round. The other countable Mustang score came from Gannon Hall, ending in 39th place with a score of 15-over. Hall was consistent on the week, firing rounds of seven and eight over par.
The Mustangs will return to the course at the NSIC Conference Preview, taking place in Kansas City next week.
