Mustangs Finish Fifth at NSIC Conference Preview

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In a field of all NCAA DII teams except for Friends University, the Mount Mercy men's golf team placed fifth at the NSIC Conference Preview.

Concordia St. Paul finished first at four-under as a team, while Bemidji State and Friends would take a tie for second at two-under, followed by Winona State at one-under. The Mustangs would round out the top five, taking home third with a score of three-over.

The Mustangs were led by Theo Baker, firing a tournament score of two-under, marking his second consecutive tournament in red figures. Baker would finish in eighth while shooting a three-under back nine in his second round to shoot even on the day. Baker would start his back nine with an eagle on the par five 10th, and followed that up with two birdies and a bogey. Gannon Hall placed second on the team and 25th overall, with a tournament score of two-over. Hall would shoot back-to-back rounds of one-over par in his tournament, adding three birdies to his tally over the final round.

Ziwen Zhong finished with a tournament score of four-over, good for a 39th place finish. Zhong improved his first round score by four shots, shooting an even par score over his final 18 holes, capped off by four birdies on his back nine. The final countable score came from Frederick Walker, ending in 55th place at six over. Walker fired a final round score of four over, while shooting two-over in his opening 18 holes.

The Mustangs will return to the course in two weeks at the Midwest Spring National Invite, taking place in Manhattan, Kansas.
