Mustangs Place Seventh at Midwest Spring National Invite

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Mustang men's golf team placed seventh this week at the Midwest Spring National Invite, taking place at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kan.

Bellevue would go on to win the tournament with a 72-hole score of 11 over par at 875 strokes. Hastings (+30), Northwestern (+32), Grand View (+34), and Friends (+35) would all finish within five shots of each other to round out the top five teams at teh tournament.

For the Mustangs, Frank Haege would be the top golfer, finishing in a tie for third at four over, in what was his best round of the season. Haege shot two rounds of one over 73, and one round of two over 74 to pace his third place effort. Haege would go on a tear on the back nine, carding five birdies, including four in a row to seal a top three finish. The next Mustang on the leaderboard was Frederick Walker in a tie for 12th at eight over par. Walker would fire off two rounds of two over 74 while opening his tournament in round one at a four over 76.

Theo Baker finished just outside the top 30 in a tie for 32nd. Despite a first round score of 83, Baker would dial it up over his final 36 holes and card rounds of 75 and 73, improving his first round score by as many as 10 shots. Ziwen Zhong finished fourth on the team at 18 over par, good for a tie for 38th. Zhong was consistent in his first two rounds, carding a four over 76 in each of his first 18 holes, while falling in the third round with a score of 10 over 82.

The Mustangs will return to the course at the Heart of America Championships, taking place at LionsGate Golf Course in Kansas City next week.
