Mustangs Start Spring Season with Second Place Finish at Verhille Invitational

CAMDENTON, Mo. — Mount Mercy's golfers put on an impressive performance at The Verhille Invitational. Leading the charge was Frank Haege, who tied for fourth with a final score of +3. Haege showed remarkable adaptability, improving his game to shoot a -1 in the second round.

The Mustangs would finish second behind Northwestern, who ended at 21 over par, compared to the Mustangs at 27 over par. Kirkwood would round out the top three at 30 over par.

The Mustangs, who hosted The Verhille Invitational at The Club at Kinderhook, saw several strong performances. Andrew Brown made a significant comeback, securing seventh place with a final score of +6. After a challenging first round where he shot +9, Brown rallied with a -3 in the second round.

Ziwen Zhong and Wil Sigwarth both tied for eighth place, each finishing at +7. Zhong demonstrated consistency, improving from a first round of +6 to a +1 in the second. Sigwarth posted rounds of +4 and +3, respectively. Vincent Ferris rounded out the top performers, tying for 11th with a +9.

The Mustangs' golfers displayed resilience and competitiveness throughout the tournament, underscoring their strength in stroke play. Brown, playing for the Mustangs (B), made a valuable contribution to the team's overall standings with his seventh-place finish.

The Mustangs will take the next few weeks off, preparing for the William Woods Spring Invite in Fulton, Mo., starting on March 30.
