New home for Mount Mercy soccer this fall

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy University has partnered with Xavier High School to make HECO Field the home of Mustang soccer this fall, Mount Mercy Athletic Director Scot Reisinger and Xavier Activities Director Mike Winker announced today.

Lower Kingston Field, the long-time home of Mustang soccer, will be unavailable this fall due to turf renovations. So, a total of eight men's games and seven women's matches will be played at Highway Equipment Company (HECO) Field on the Xavier campus.

"I want to express my appreciation and excitement for our one-year arrangement with Xavier," said Reisinger. "Principal Keating, Mike Winker and the entire Saints maintenance staff have been extremely flexible and wonderful to work with during our time of need. We look forward to hosting Mustang soccer on HECO Field this fall."

"Mount Mercy and Xavier have an outstanding tradition of partnering with one another," said Winker. "We are happy to carry on that tradition and excited to serve as the Mustangs' 'home away from home' this upcoming soccer season."

Mount Mercy opens the 2015 campaign with a home doubleheader on Tuesday, Aug. 25, against Central Methodist (Mo.). Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. for the women's contest, followed by a men's match at 5:30 p.m. at HECO Field.
