Lakers limit Mustang offense in non-conference clash
CHICAGO -- After a four-goal effort in Wednesday's win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.), the Mount Mercy men's soccer team looked to keep the momentum rolling into Saturday's non-conference match at Roosevelt (Ill.), but the lakers limited the Mustangs to just six total shots in a 2-0 shutout at IIT Stuart Field.
Both Laker goals came in the first half nearly seven minuts apart. It was a Luis Arreola header off of a Jose Solis corner kick to get the scoring started in the 30th minute, then Albert Arabik went far post on a through ball by Omar Flores in the 37th minute for a 2-0 Roosevelt lead. It held up as the Mustang only got one shot against the Laker defense after halftime.
Roosevelt's Mario Graciano stopped three shots in the shutout while Matias da Fonseca (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) made six saves for the Mustangs (1-2-0), who will be back at home this week for a pair of non-conference games. Mount Mercy hosts St. Ambrose on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Iowa Wesleyan on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.
