Mustangs, Ravens draw in Heart matchup
ATCHISON, Kan. -- The Mount Mercy men's soccer team earned a hard-fought, 1-1 draw with Benedictine (Kan.) in a Heart of America Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday night at Legacy Field.
Both goals were scored within five minutes of each other. The Mustangs struck first when Nikola Petrovic (SR/Belgrade, Serbia) set up a Rafael Passanha (SO/Lisbon, Portugal) goal in the 68th minute. Minutes later, Girma Kassa found the back of the net to level the match.
While Mount Mercy held a 10-9 advantage in total shots, they put seven on-frame compared to only one by Benedictine. That one was all the Ravens needed to get the tie after two extra periods.
The Mustangs (6-3-2, 3-1-1 Heart) are in a tie for third place in the league and take on second-place William Penn (8-3-0, 4-1-0 Heart) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Oskaloosa. After that, Graceland (6-2-2, 3-1-1 Heart) visits the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 3:30 p.m.
