Second-half goals send Mustangs to first defeat
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- After trailing 1-0 at halftime, St. Ambrose scored twice within a 4-minute span early in the second half to hand the Mount Mercy men's soccer team their first loss of the season, 2-1, in a non-conference match at St. Vincent's Stadium.
The Mustangs (2-1-0) host Hannibal-LaGrange in their final non-conference contest of the season next weekend. Kickoff for the Mustangs and Trojans will be 4:30 pm at Hadzic Field at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex in Cedar Rapids. St. Ambrose remained unbeaten at 3-0-0 with Saturday's victory.
Yu Sasaki scored in his third consecutive game to start the season, getting an unassisted goal in the 35th minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. It held up until the 56th minute when David Morsey of St. Ambrose leveled the match, then the Bees took the lead for good on Rory Hannon's goal just under four minutes later.
Mount Mercy held an advantage in total shots (11-9) for the third match in a row, but St. Ambrose put six on frame compared to five for the Mustangs. Miguel Bayma stopped four shots for the Bees while Lucca Munhoz managed five saves in 90 minutes for Mount Mercy.
