Mustangs, Peacocks draw in Sunday matinee

FAYETTE, Iowa -- Matteo Anzallo and Boris Dimitrov teamed up for the equalizer with only 90 seconds to go as the Mount Mercy men's soccer team took a 1-1 draw at Upper Iowa in their final non-conference match of the season on Sunday afternoon at Harms-Eischeid Stadium.

The Mustangs will head into Heart of America Athletic Conference play with a 3-0-2 mark. They host 21st-ranked Central Methodist (3-2-0) in the league opener on Saturday at 3:30 pm at Hadzic Field in Cedar Rapids. Upper Iowa moved to 2-0-1 on the season.

Mount Mercy held a 2-to-1 advantage in total shots (20-10) and shots on goal (12-6) in Sunday's match. Mustang goalkeeper Alejandro Cuende made five saves. Archie Watts had a clean sheet with eight saves in 76 minutes, while JJ Gonzalez Hayes stopped a pair of shots but allowed Mount Mercy's lone goal.
