OSKALOOSA, Iowa -- The Mount Mercy men's soccer team suffered their first road loss of the season on Wednesday, with 14th-ranked William Penn scoring four goals in the first half en route to a 6-1 victory over the Mustangs in Heart of America Athletic Conference action at Drost Field.
William Penn's first two scores were a minute apart and by the 18th minute, the Statesmen led, 3-0. Mount Mercy's lone goal happened in the 88th minute Dusan Stankovic found the back of the net with an assist from Javier Sierra Lopez. Total shots were 18-8 in favor of the Statesmen (9-1-4, 4-0-3 Heart), who put nine on-frame compared to five for the Mustangs.
Mount Mercy (7-2-3, 4-2-1 Heart) takes on another ranked opponent this weekend as eighth-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene (7-2-4, 3-2-2 Heart) visits Hadzic Field on Saturday for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
