Hadzic inducted into the Xavier Alumni Hall of Fame
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy men's soccer coach Amir Hadzic was one of five individuals inducted into the Xavier High School Alumni Hall of Fame on Oct. 6.
Hadzic served as Xavier's boys' soccer head coach from 2007-21. During that time he led the Saints to 13 state tournament appearances, five state titles (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2021), and an overall record of 161-60-3. He is a seven-time Metro Coach of the Year (2000, 2003 at Cedar Rapids Prairie; 2007, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016 at Xavier), a four-time Mississippi Valley Conference Coach of the Year (2010, 2011, 2015, 2019), and a five-time recipient of the Iowa High School Athletic Association's Coach's Achievement Award (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2021).
Hadzic was also named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Iowa High School Coach of the Year (2010), National Federation of State High School Associations Coach of the Year for the state of Iowa (2011), and served as the head coach of the East All-Stars at the annual Iowa High School Coaches Association All-Star Game (2013). He was inducted into the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA) Hall of Fame in February 2015.
Hadzic has also been the men's soccer coach at Mount Mercy since 1995. He is the program's all-time leader in coaching victories, is a three-time Midwest Classic Conference Coach of the Year (2009, 2010, 2011) and has guided the Mustangs to two NAIA national tournaments (2011, 2015) and an MCC title (2011).
After coming to the United States 30 years ago as a refugee of war-torn Bosnia, Hadzic has made a significant impact in growing the sport of soccer in our region by sharing his passion with area youth. His ability to mentor and engage his student-athletes has led many to contribute their skills within their communities. Twenty-six of Hadzic's former players have become head coaches throughout the country.
