CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A physical matchup ended in a draw between Grand View and Mount Mercy on Wednesday, as neither team was able to find a breakthrough in a Heart of America match, ending 1-1.
Both keepers were active early, as Scott Penngelly from Grand View and Alejandro Cuende from MMU each recorded a pair of saves in the opening 11 and a half minutes. The Mustangs, however, were able to break through and put a goal on the board as Diego Carrasco fed the ball over the top of Grand View defenders right to the foot of Danilo Obradovic, as Obradovic put it home to give the Mustangs the lead, which they would hold into the break.
In the 60th minute, Pietro Piacenza shot the ball at Cuende which was saved, but Piacenza grabbed his own rebound and put it home to square the game at one. From then on, the game was physical as each team had their eyes set on victory. The game ended with nine yellow cards and 22 total fouls.
Alejandro Cuende was remarkable in goal, stopping eight shots while only allowing the one goal.
The Mustangs will return to Hadzic Field on Saturday against Benedictine, with kickoff slated for 3:30 p.m.
