FAYETTE, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's soccer team got back to their winning ways, shutting out No. 22 Central Methodist on the road, 1-0.
Zach Biggs earned his first shutout of the year in goal, stopping all four shots on goal that he faced, despite the Eagles having a 14-6 advantage in total shots in the contest. Martin Fernandez scored the lone goal of the game in the 66th minute, as the Mustangs would hold the lead until the end to earn their first win in conference play on the year.
In a very physical match, both teams combined for 19 fouls, nine yellow cards, and two red cards, one by each team. The Mustangs ended the match with the advantage in corners, holding Central Methodist without a corner while recording one themselves.
The Mustangs will return to the field next weekend against Baker on the road in Baldwin City.
