DUBUQUE, Iowa - The MMU men's soccer team got back into the win column, earning a much needed late season win with a victory over Clarke in Dubuque, 2-1.
Martin Fernandez got the scoring started in the 19th minute on a penalty kick following a Clarke foul in the box, making it 1-0 Mustangs early. The lead would stay at one through the remainder of the first half until early in the second half. Chafik Elidrissi added his name to the score sheet, scoring in the 52nd minute to extend the Mustang lead to two goals.
The Mustangs were able to keep Clarke's offense in check for the majority of the match, until Kenshin Yasujima took a feed from Joshua Reddy to cut into the Mustang lead, but it would not be enough as the Mustangs held on to earn the hard fought victory.
Alejandro Cuende earned the win in goal after a remarkable match, tallying six saves on seven shots while just allowing the one goal. The win was much needed for the team, as the squad looks to push over the next two games to try and make the Heart of America Conference Championships.
The Mustangs will return to Hadzic Field on Saturday, playing host to Park University, with a kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
