Mustangs Season Ends in PK's Against William Penn

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's soccer team pushed nationally No. 5 ranked William Penn to the brink of a first round exit from the Heart of America tournament, but it was the Statesmen that would prevail in penalty kicks after the match ended in a two all draw.

The Statesmen took an early lead as John-Joe Mullane scored in the eighth minute. The lead would last well into the second half, as Martin Fernandez scored to tie it at one. In the 85th minute, Miguel Menendez scored to give WPU the lead, but it wouldn't last long as Diego Carrasco tied the match at two just two minutes later.

After two overtime periods, the match headed to a decisive penalty shootout. In round one, WPU's Hugo Cornish scored while Martin Fernandez missed. In the second round, WPU jumped up to a 2-0 lead in the shootout as Connor O'Reilly scored. The Mustangs would get on the board in the shootout in round three as Diego Carrasco scored, while Menendez missed. In round four, WPU's Albert Feixas put it past Alejandro Cuende to earn the advancement for WPU.

The loss ends the season for the Mustangs who ended with a record of 7-6-3.
