Adams and Nickelson hit qualifying marks at Bearcat Open

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Ceondae Adams set a school record while hitting the NAIA's automatic qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash while Luke Nickelson also qualified for nationals in the triple jump at the Bearcat Open this weekend at Northwest Missouri State, site of the upcoming Heart of America Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Adams, already a national qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles, earned the automatic berth in the 60-meter dash with a time of :06.82. That broke the school record of :06.87 set by teammate Keegan Thompson earlier this season. Adams' time was good for second place at the meet, is the fastest in the Heart of America so far, and ranks 13th in the NAIA.

Nickelson surpassed the NAIA's automatic qualifying standard as well while placing third in the triple jump with a leap of 14.31 meters. After this weekend's performance, he now holds the top two spots on Mount Mercy's all-time performance list, including a school-record 14.57 meter leap in 2020.

The Mustang men's distance medley relay team of Sergio Lizarraga, Jordan Schroeder, Brady Cortez, and Ryan Clancy shattered the school record while placing seventh with a time of 10:20.49. That bettered the previous mark by more than 20 seconds.
