Mustangs Compete at Dual Meets to Close the Weekend

DAVENPORT, Iowa—Mount Mercy University's men's track and field team participated in the Frigid Bee Invitational hosted by St. Ambrose University at the Wellness and Recreation Center on Saturday.
 
The Mustangs delivered a commendable performance in the field events. In the men's shot put, junior Omar Salinas secured a fifth-place finish with a mark of 13.28 meters (43 feet, 7 inches), while senior Nate Jones placed sixth, throwing 13.11 meters (43 feet, 0.25 inches). Senior Alexander Paulson rounded out the scoring in eighth, reaching 12.57 meters (41 feet, 3 inches).
 
Jones also led the team in the weight throw, achieving a sixth-place result with a mark of 13.26 meters (43 feet, 6 inches). Paulson followed closely, finishing seventh with 13.18 meters (43 feet, 3 inches), and Salinas added to the team score with an eighth-place finish at 13.12 meters (43 feet, 0.5 inches).
 
The Mount Mercy men's track and field team also delivered a competitive performance at the Mel Tjeerdsma Classic, hosted by Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri. 
 
In the sprints, Baylor Speidel led the way in the 60-meter dash, advancing to the finals and securing a third-place finish with a time of 6.97 seconds. He also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing 13th with a time of 22.45 seconds. BJ Huggins posted a time of 51.85 seconds in the 400 meters, finishing 10th in a strong field. In the 60m hurdles, Ceondae Adams earned times of 8.05 in both the prelims and the finals, which earned an NAIA "B" qualifying mark. Adams' performance in the 60m hurdles also broke the previous school record of 8.16, which he set last season.
 
The distance crew was highlighted by Ryan Mitchell, who finished ninth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:34.13. Teammate Lukas Lamparek followed closely, finishing 16th with a time of 15:44.25. Several other Mustangs earned solid finishes in the event, showcasing the team's depth.
 
The team will be back in action at the SAU Finals Week Invite, held in Davenport on Saturday, December 14th.
