Mustangs Deliver Strong Performances at the Hilltop Invitational
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Mount Mercy's men's indoor track and field team showcased their talent across numerous events at the Hilltop Invitational at Cornell College on Saturday. The Mustangs would finish the meet taking sixth with 73 points.
In the distance events, BJ Huggins would finish sixth in the 60 meter race with a time of 7.14 seconds, surpassing his prelim time of 7.23. In the 60 meter hurdles, Perez Hemmings would take third place with a time of 8.73 seconds as teammate Ky Kaufmann would finish seventh at 9.12.
Mount Mercy's Trevor Leitheiser finished third for the Mustangs in the 400 meter race with a time of 52.74, setting a new personal record. Chris Canas takes fifth in the race (54.15). In the 3000 meter race, Ryan Mitchell ran a time of 8:48.39, taking second place and setting a personal record for the event.
The Mustangs also showed talent in the field events. In the high jump, Oscar Nielsen (1.85) and Cole Eberly (1.75) would take third and fifth place, respectively. Omar Salinas would take third in the shot put with a toss of 13.77 meters, setting a new season best, while being followed by Nate Jones (13.13) and Alex Paulson (12.37) in fifth and seventh place.
The Mustangs will be back in action on February 1st as they compete at the Grinnell Invite.
