Mustangs Excel at Chelsey M. Henkenius Indoor Invitational

WAVERLY, Iowa — Mount Mercy wrapped up the Chelsey M. Henkenius Indoor Invitational with standout victories and impressive top-three finishes. Leading the charge were Caleb Rutherford in the shot put and Noah Gregoire in the 5000 meters.

The men's team put on a show of athletic prowess. Freshman Noah Gregoire clinched first in the 5000 meters, clocking in at 15:03.66, and shattered the school record in the process. In the 400 meters, sophomore Noah Valenzuela dashed to a second-place finish with a time of 50.57. Senior Caleb Rutherford dominated the shot put, taking first with a throw of 15.14 meters.

Freshman Brady Marak made waves in the 60 meters, advancing to the finals to finish sixth with a time of 7.04. He had earlier qualified fifth with a slightly quicker 7.02. In the pole vault, junior Luke Czernecki soared to second place by clearing 3.95 meters. Freshman Charles Sundquist also shone, claiming second in the weight throw with a distance of 15.34 meters, bolstering the Mustangs' field event successes.

**Sprints**
Brady Marak secured 6th in the Men's 60 Meters Finals with a time of 7.04. BJ Huggins, a senior, took 6th in the Men's 200 Meters, clocking 23.33.

**Middle Distance**
In the Men's 400 Meters, Noah Valenzuela finished 2nd with a time of 50.57. Seth Countryman rounded out the top three in the Men's 600 Meters at 1:23.69.

**Distance**
Noah Gregoire captured 1st in the Men's 5000 Meters with a record-setting time of 15:03.66. Brady Cortez earned 3rd in the Men's 1000 Meters, finishing in 2:34.87.

**Hurdles**
Luke Czernecki took 6th in the Men's 60 Hurdles Finals, posting a time of 8.67.

**Jumps**
In the Men's Pole Vault, Luke Czernecki achieved 2nd place, reaching 3.95m. Daylin Schaefer landed in 6th place in the Men's Long Jump with a leap of 6.44m.

**Throws**
Caleb Rutherford triumphed in the Men's Shot Put with a throw of 15.14m. Charles Sundquist placed 2nd in the Men's Weight Throw, marking 15.34m.

Brady Marak, promising as a freshman, displayed potential in the Men's 60 Meters, finishing sixth in the finals at 7.04 seconds, having improved from his preliminary round finish. Senior BJ Huggins crossed the line sixth in the Men's 200 Meters with a time of 23.33 seconds and claimed seventh in the Men's 400 Meters at 52.21 seconds. Sophomore Noah Valenzuela's remarkable run in the Men's 400 Meters earned him second place with a time of 50.57 seconds. Meanwhile, Caleb Rutherford sealed victory in the Men's Shot Put with a mark of 15.14 meters.

The Mustangs' next event is on Friday, January 23, in Ames, Iowa.
