Adams, Miller add to qualifier list in final home meet of the season

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Ceondae Adams and Mitch Miller added two more events to Mount Mercy's national qualifier list over the weekend as the Mustang men finished fourth and the women's squad placed third at the Mustang Invitational presented by ITS. It was the final home meet of the season at the Robert W. Plaster Athletic Complex.

Adams torched the field in the 200 meter dash, winning the event with a time of :21.41. That hit the NAIA's automatic qualifying standard and set a school record. For Adams, it's his second qualifying event after having reached the NAIA's "B" mark in the 110 meter hurdles earlier this month at the Mustang Invitational. He won the 110 hurdles again on Saturday in :14.77.

Miller was a top-three finisher in three events, including the discus. His 48.55 meter throw was a school record and eclipsed the NAIA's "B" standard for qualification. Miller also won the hammer with a school-record toss of 51.36 meters and placed third in the shot put with the second-best performance in school history (14.14m).

In women's action, Bre Nail again hit the qualifying standard in the shot put while winning the event with a 13.61 meter throw. Event winners also included Deanna Newhouse in the 5000 meters (19:09.14), J'Lyn Knutson in the 1500 meters (5:04.95), Jessa Day in the 3000 meter steeplechase (13:16.24), and Abby Hill in the javelin (37.90m). Hill's mark was a personal best and put her fourth on Mount Mercy's all-time performers list.
