Throwers Step Up for the Mustangs at Cornell Invitational

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's outdoor track and field team turned in a solid performance at the Cornell Invitational on Saturday, April 5.

Nate Jones led the way for the Mustangs with an eighth-place finish in the discus (37.90 meters) and a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (45.30m).

In the hammer throw, Omar Salinas placed sixth (42.85m), Alex Paulson finished ninth (39.40m) and Nels Fossum took 10th (36.80m).

Owen McBride earned a runner-up finish in the javelin with a throw of 38.54 meters.

Salinas also paced the Mustangs in the shot put, placing second with a mark of 14.59 meters. Paulson followed in fourth at 13.06 meters.

Mount Mercy returns to competition on Friday, April 11, when it hosts the Mustang Distance Carnival & Open.
