Mustangs Power Through Rittgers Invitational
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Mount Mercy men's track and field team turned in strong performances across several events at the Rittgers Invitational, hosted by Coe College on Wednesday.
In the running events, Ky Kaufmann placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.61 seconds. Chris Canas earned a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.46) and followed that up with a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash at 23.29. Trevor Leitheiser claimed the title in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:02.33.
In the field events, Nate Jones led the Mustangs in the shot put with a second-place toss of 12.77 meters. Nels Fossum followed in fifth at 9.80 meters.
Omar Salinas was the Musatngs' top finisher in the hammer throw, placing second with a mark of 43.91 meters. Jones took fourth (41.99) and Fossum placed fifth (35.39). Jones also finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 36.03 meters.
Owen McBride captured the javelin title with a throw of 48.57 meters. In the long jump, Kaufmann earned third with a leap of 6.12 meters. Sergio Bernabeu placed sixth in the triple jump at 10.89 meters, followed by Oscar Nielsen in seventh (10.35).
Mount Mercy returns to action on Thursday, April 25, at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
