Mustangs Charge Into Top Finishes at Heart Championships

FAYETTE, Mo. - The Mount Mercy men's outdoor track and field team notched multiple top-10 finishes on day two of the Heart of America Outdoor Championships on Saturday.

In the field events, Omar Salinas led the Mustangs with a fifth-place finish in the shot put, recording a toss of 15.02 meters. In the high jump, Oscar Nielsen tied for 10th with a clearance of 1.86 meters.

On the track, the Mustangs' 4x100-meter relay team raced to a second-place finish in 41.20 seconds, while the 4x400 squad placed fifth at 3:20.43.

In the 1,500-meter run, Ryan Mitchell led the Mustangs with a fourth-place finish in 4:00.96. Brady Cortez followed in sixth at 4:03.79.

Noah Valenzuela paced the Mustangs in the 400-meter dash, taking fourth with a time of 48.80 seconds. Nate Keiper followed close behind in fifth at 49.15. Baylor Speidel earned a pair of fifth-place finishes, clocking 10.57 in the 100-meter dash and 21.45 in the 200-meter dash.

Quinn Swift capped the day with a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run, posting a time of 15:05.63.

Mount Mercy will return to competition at the Penultimate Qualifier in Rock Island, Illinois, and the St. Francis Fighting Chance Meet in Joliet, Illinois, beginning Friday, May 9.
