Mustangs Dominate the Trolls in Three Straight Sets
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Mount Mercy's men's volleyball team continued its strong start to the season with a decisive 3-0 victory over Trinity Christian College on Friday evening at the Hennessey Recreation Center. The Mustangs dominated the non-conference match, claiming sets by scores of 25-14, 25-11, and 25-11 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Mount Mercy showcased an efficient offensive performance, posting a .406 hitting percentage while limiting Trinity Christian to a -.114 clip. Pere Font Torres led the offensive charge with six kills on nine swings, hitting .556. Kevin Fiedler added eight kills with a .538 efficiency, while Raphael Massara contributed six kills and eight points overall.
Gabor Toth directed the attack, recording three aces and facilitating a balanced offense that saw 11 different players contribute points. Defensively, the Mustangs tallied six team blocks, with Matthew Krzos registering three block assists and Gustavo Kehl Bauer adding six digs.
Trinity Christian struggled to find consistency, committing 26 attack errors across three sets. The visiting Trolls were led by Austin Risser with nine kills but hit only .200 individually.
The Mustangs seized control early, jumping to a 25-14 win in the opening set behind efficient hitting and four team blocks. The second set saw Mount Mercy limit the Trolls to a negative hitting percentage, forcing nine attack errors en route to a 25-11 win. In the third, Mount Mercy sealed the sweep with a 25-11 finish, driven by aggressive serving and a consistent sideout rate.
Mount Mercy will return to the court as they host St. Ambrose on Tuesday, January 28th, at 7:00 p.m.
