Witzany earns pair of all-America honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mount Mercy standout Jayna Witzany received a pair of honors this week. The senior right-hander earned NAIA first-team all-America recognition as well as National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) second-team all-America status.

Witzany put together one of the best seasons in school history, going 23-4 while leading the nation with a 0.82 earned run average. In 195-1/3 innings, she reached the 300-strikeout mark for the second year in a row, finishing fifth in the NAIA with 302 against only 60 walks.

The Cottage Grove, Minn., native was also the Heart of America Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and a first-team all-conference choice. Witzany set major milestones this season as well, setting career school records for wins (63), strikeouts (749), and shutouts (31). She also set single-season marks for ERA (0.82) and shutouts (14).
