Mustangs Drop Two in Florida

LAKELAND, Fla. - The Mount Mercy softball team dropped a pair of games to Southeastern, falling by scores of 4-1 and 6-0. 

Game One

The Mustangs (7-9) were paced on offense by two-hit efforts from Callie Janik, Keily Ulatowski, as Janik would drive in the lone RBI in the game for the Mustangs.

The Fire (18-8) got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning as Leah Gonzalez would single up the middle, scoring Chapel Cunningham as Southeastern jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Raylei McKinney would send a ball over the right centerfield wall to stretch the Southeastern lead to four. The Mustangs would get a run back on a Janik single up the middle, scoring Sarah Heick as the game would end with a 4-1 scoreline.

Edan Playa earned her seventh win on the season, pitching all seven innings while allowing eight hits and just the one run. Kalli Minger was tabbed with the loss, allowing four earned runs and allowing just one walk.

Game Two

Pitching was the name of the game for Southeastern, as Autumn Hunter earned her fifth win on the season, pitching a no-hitter in the contest. Hunter would strike out nine Mustangs and allow four walks in the Fire nightcap win.

Southeastern would start the scoring once more in the bottom of the first inning, as Gonzalez doubled to right center field, driving in a pair as the Fire jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead. Gonzalez would drive in another run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly, ending her day with four RBI's after drving in another in the seventh.

The Mustangs will return to the diamond tomorrow, taking on Warner (Fla.) in Lake Wales, with first pitch of the afternoon doubleheader slated for noon CDT.
