Mustangs' Season Cut Short in Loss to Benedictine
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy's softball team closed out its season with a 3-1 loss to fifth-seeded Benedictine in postseason action.
Calli Janik gave the Mustangs an early lead in the top of the first inning, blasting a solo home run to center field.
The Ravens answered in the bottom of the fourth when Kaelyn Fisher singled to left center, driving in Rhiannon Martin to tie the game at 1-1. Benedictine pulled ahead in the fifth as Ryan Cooper scored on a wild pitch by Abbey Webb.
Amanda Waymire added insurance in the sixth, launching a solo home run to left field to make it 3-1 and seal the win for the Ravens.
Webb took the loss in the circle for the Mustangs, allowing two runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. Alyssa McElvain pitched 1.1 innings in relief, giving up one run on two hits.
Bailey Selvage earned the win for Benedictine with a complete-game effort, surrendering just one run on five hits while striking out five.
