FOREST CITY, Iowa -- Waldorf opened with a 25-point first quarter on Tuesday night and cruised to a 74-60 victory over Mount Mercy in a non-conference women's basketball game at Hanson Fieldhouse.
The Mustangs (0-4), who shot just 34.3 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from 3-point range against the Warriors, will be looking for their first win of the season in a rematch with Viterbo on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Hennessey Recreation Center. The V-Hawks beat the Mustangs, 68-56, on Nov. 3 in La Crosse, Wis.
Sammy Mia knocked down three triples while scoring a team-high 17 points at Waldorf (4-4). Kyla Richardson added 11 points, Madison Dreckman eight to go along with seven rebounds. Sassy Coleman had three assists and Mia, Richardson, and Coleman each collected two steals.
Tina Lair-VanMeter's double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds led a trio of Warriors in double figures. Kayela Willis chipped in 13 points, four rebounds, and five assists as Sandra Christian tallied 12 points and a pair of steals. Kinsey Tweedy scored nine points off the bench.
